Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating an account, downloading, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of a household, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms for that household.

2. Description of the Service

MealGenie is a meal-recommendation app that suggests complete, personalized meals based on the information you provide — such as where you live, where you grew up, your household, dietary needs, allergies, tastes, time, skill and kitchen equipment. Features include full-meal recommendations, region-authentic recipes with AI-generated photos, My Kitchen scanning, meal intents, Cook Mode, a shopping list, Weekly Plan, Family Circle, an allergen safety check and a Daily Special. Features may change, improve or be discontinued over time.

3. Accounts & eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You create and access your account through Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple; we do not manage passwords. You are responsible for maintaining access to the Google or Apple account you use to sign in, and for activity that occurs under your account. Please keep your sign-in provider secure.

4. Subscriptions & billing

MealGenie offers a free trial and paid subscriptions:

• Free trial: your first week is free.
• Supporter: $2.99 per month or $19.99 per year.
• Family: $49.99 per year for up to 6 people.

Subscriptions are purchased and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and are subject to those stores' terms. Prices are in US dollars and may vary by region and store; applicable taxes may apply.

Auto-renewal and cancellation

Paid subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Refunds

Because billing is handled by the app stores, refunds are governed by the applicable store's policy. Except where required by law, we do not provide refunds beyond what the App Store or Google Play offers. As an independent developer, we appreciate that your subscription directly supports the real AI costs behind every recommendation.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
• Upload content you do not have the right to share, or that is unlawful, harmful or infringing;
• Add people to Family Circle without their consent, or misuse shareable vote links;
• Attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, overload or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its providers;
• Use the Service to build a competing product or to scrape or resell its content;
• Submit information about others (or a child) that you are not authorized to provide.

We may suspend or terminate access that violates these Terms or that risks harm to the Service or other users.

6. AI content & allergen disclaimer

In particular:

• Verify ingredients and labels yourself. You must check the actual ingredients and packaging of the products you buy, especially for allergies and dietary or medical needs. Formulations vary and change over time.
• The allergen safety check is a best-effort aid, not a guarantee. It is designed to help you spot potential problems, but it can miss allergens or misidentify ingredients. Never rely on it alone if you or someone you cook for has an allergy or intolerance.
• Not medical or nutritional advice. The Service does not provide medical, health or professional nutritional advice. Nutrition figures are estimates. Consult a qualified professional for dietary or medical decisions.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you assume responsibility for how you use AI-generated content, and you agree that we are not liable for outcomes arising from reliance on it. See also the Limitation of liability below.

7. Family plan seats

The Family plan allows up to 6 people to use MealGenie under a single annual subscription. The account holder who purchases the plan is responsible for managing seats and for the conduct of members they invite. Each member uses their own Google or Apple sign-in. Seats are for members of a household or family and may not be resold or shared publicly. Removing a member frees their seat for reassignment as described in the app.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including the MealGenie name, logo, design, software and the arrangement of its content, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the Service for your own household cooking, subject to these Terms. You may of course cook the meals the genie suggests and share a shopping list or recipe with friends and family for personal, non-commercial use.

9. Your content

"Your content" includes the information and images you provide — such as your preferences, kitchen photos and photos of what you cooked. You retain ownership of your content. You grant us a limited licence to host, store, process and display your content solely to operate and improve the Service for you — for example, to send a kitchen photo to Google's Gemini API so the genie can generate a recommendation, to sync your data across your devices, and to power Family Circle sharing that you initiate.

You are responsible for your content and confirm you have the right to provide it. You can delete your content or your account as described in our Account & data deletion page.

10. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties including Google (Gemini AI, Firebase and Cloud Messaging), Apple (Sign in with Apple and push notifications) and Expo (push delivery), and is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services, and their availability or changes may affect the Service.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that recommendations, recipes, nutrition information or images will be accurate, complete or suitable for your needs.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MealGenie and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill or profits, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service — including any reliance on AI-generated recipes, substitutions, nutrition estimates or the allergen safety check. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MealGenie and its developer from any claims, damages, liabilities and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Goa, India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Goa, India for any dispute that is not otherwise subject to the app stores' terms.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
